Internal Family Systems Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy focuses on healing psychological wounds by identifying and working with different parts of the self. IFS was developed by Richard Schwartz in the 1980s and is based on the concept that people have multiple "parts" within themselves that can have conflicting beliefs, feelings, and desires.

For example, one part of you may love your job because of the people you work with. Another part of you may find the work you do boring or unchallenging. Yet another part might feel too anxious to change your career in case it doesn’t work out. The result is that you stay stuck in paralysis, not knowing what to do.
How IFS Works
IFS helps identify and connect with the various parts of yourself, which aids in developing an understanding of the roles and functions of parts and creating greater harmony within your system. This process can help you gain insight into how parts influence your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. IFS supports you in becoming unstuck emotionally and can make change feel more organic.

Through IFS, Sacha helps you to "unblend" from your parts, meaning you learn to observe and engage with your parts more objectively, without being overwhelmed by your emotions. This can help you develop a more compassionate and accepting relationship with yourself.

IFS works in harmony with your nervous system. We all experience dysregulation and find ourselves caught in survival states, such as anxiety, anger, numbness, or shutting down. People who come to therapy are often struggling to regulate their nervous system. They regularly experience overwhelming emotional states and physiological symptoms. They have commonly experienced past negative events, trauma, or unmet needs at an important period of development. People with such experiences are more likely to pick up on cues of danger that trigger survival states rather than being able to notice cues of safety that would help shift back to regulation. This can cause them to think and behave in ways that create more problems and become stuck.

If you recognise that your body shifts into these survival states, know that you’re not defective. You’re human and you have human biology.

IFS therapy involves helping you identify and work with parts of yourself that are carrying emotional pain and trauma. Feeling heard and validated, parts become integrated into your overall system, and you can experience healing and wholeness.
